Shillong, April 13: Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, conducted a two-day visit to Meghalaya, reviewing key development initiatives and praising the state for achieving near-total utilisation of central allocations.
The visit began with a high-level review meeting at the Meghalaya Secretariat, attended by the Chief Secretary and senior officials, focusing on progress across major projects and enhancing Centre-State coordination.
A significant portion of the projects falls under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region, including a four-lane road in New Shillong Township and an IT Park in Tura. Tourism projects such as a ropeway at Shillong Peak, skywalk at Mawkdok, and development of the Sohra Tourism Circuit are also progressing.
Infrastructure works are being undertaken under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme, including water supply projects in Tura and Baghmara, alongside key road and bridge developments across the state.
Jaju appreciated the pace of development in the Northeast, highlighting improvements in infrastructure, connectivity, and economic growth. He credited strong state leadership for driving progress and expressed confidence that the region could achieve sustained growth in the coming years.
He also pointed to emerging sectors like logistics, bamboo, and turmeric as promising areas for future economic expansion.
