Ri Bhoi: In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old youth identified as Robert M. Marak, a resident of Model Village, died on the spot after a live electric wire reportedly fell on him in Upper Jorbil early Sunday morning.
According to sources, the incident occurred around 6 AM when the victim, son of Onil G. Momin, had taken a scooty (ML 10 D 5378) from a friend for personal work.
Upon reaching the spot, a live streetlight wire suddenly snapped and fell on his head, leading to his instant death.
Locals who rushed to help were unable to approach immediately due to fear of electrocution and instead informed the Khanapara Police Station and the electricity department, which later disconnected the power supply.
The body was found lying on the ground beside the scooty, along with the fallen electric wire.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
