The 2026 edition of the Shad Suk Mynsiem, organised by the Seng Khasi Kmie, concluded on a grand and spiritually uplifting note, with enthusiastic participation from the youth. More than a thousand men and women took part in the festival, while thousands of spectators gathered to witness one of the community’s most significant cultural events. On the concluding day alone, over 1,810 dancers, including both male and female participants, took part in the celebrations.

The Shad Suk Mynsiem tradition dates back to 1911, when it was first held at Lympung Weiking. The festival is traditionally celebrated over three consecutive days as an offering of thanksgiving to God for blessings received through the four seasons.

Members of the Shad Suk Mynsiem Committee under the Seng Khasi Kmie, including vice presidents Rgh D.L. Nongbri, Rgh P.D. Nongrum, and Rgh Rangpher Rynjah, expressed hope and optimism for the future, especially in light of the overwhelming participation of young men and women.

They said one of the most remarkable and encouraging changes seen over the years is the growing involvement of the younger generation. While in previous years only a few dozen people would participate during the Nohkjat day, this year hundreds came forward to join the festival. They added that this reflects the deep love and respect that the youth continue to hold for their cultural roots and traditions.

The committee members also pointed out that in earlier years the musical performances were largely led by elders, but this time young people themselves actively took charge of playing the traditional instruments.

The elders of the Seng Khasi Kmie also conveyed a message to the younger generation and those to come, urging them to preserve their customs and traditions. They stressed that if these are lost, the unique identity of the land and its people would also be at risk.
