SHILLONG: A meeting convened by the Meghalaya Government through the Tourism Department on Thursday to discuss the proposed Shillong Ropeway Project turned heated, with members of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) opposing the project walking out of the meeting.
The meeting was held at the State Convention Centre as part of the government’s efforts to further explain the proposed ropeway project and address concerns surrounding its implementation.
During the discussion, JAC members opposing the project decided to walk out, demanding that the Riat Laban Dorbar Pyllun take responsibility for convening a fresh public hearing on the matter.
The JAC members reportedly raised concerns that many residents from the seven local dorbar shnong under the Riat Laban Dorbar Pyllun had not been properly informed about, or made aware of, the public hearing conducted earlier.
They maintained that a fresh public hearing was necessary to ensure that residents were adequately informed and given an opportunity to express their views on the proposed project.
