Ri Bhoi District Authorities Monitor Threat of Hindu Group Protest from Assam

HEADLINES

The Ri Bhoi district administration is taking strong measures to prevent any attempts by a Hindu group from Assam, the Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP), to stage a protest in Byrnihat. The group had threatened to organize a protest if they were not allowed to hold religious activities at the Mawjymbuiñ Cave in Mawsynram.

Speaking to the media, Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, Abhilash Baranwal, and Superintendent of Police, V.S. Rathore, assured that the district administration was closely monitoring the situation. They emphasized that the authorities would not allow any disruptions to public peace, especially during the festive season of Christmas and New Year.

The district authorities confirmed that the police had already communicated with their counterparts in Assam’s Kamrup Metro district, requesting them not to allow the group to carry out their planned protest. Both Ri Bhoi and Kamrup Metro districts are coordinating efforts to ensure the situation remains under control, regardless of whether the protest attempts occur within Meghalaya or Assam.

The Hindu group had expressed intentions to block vehicles from Meghalaya if they were denied permission to conduct prayers at Mawjymbuiñ Cave, and had also threatened to disrupt traffic in Byrnihat and Khanapara. Authorities are taking precautionary measures to avoid any potential conflict or disturbance.
