HEADLINES

Shillong: Mawsynram is expected to get a major tourism boost with the construction of the Rain Museum and a proposal for a pitcher plant garden, MLA Olland Singh Suin said.

Suin said the Rain Museum, also known as the House of Rain, is being built at a fast pace and is expected to be completed by next year. Once completed, it is likely to attract tourists from across the world.

He said visitors will get a chance to experience the heavy rainfall that has made Mawsynram famous as one of the wettest places in the world, along with nearby Sohra.

The MLA also said he has submitted a proposal to the state government for the development of a pitcher plant garden at Lawbah, about 15 km from Mawsynram.

He said the proposal has already been sent to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, as the forests in Lawbah have a large number of pitcher plants.

According to Suin, the proposed garden will help boost tourism and also preserve the natural beauty of the area.
