15 arrested in East Garo Hills murder case, hunt on for one more accused

East Garo Hills Police have arrested 15 of the 16 persons accused in connection with a murder case reported under Songsak Police Station, officials said on Wednesday.

According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Garo Hills District, the incident took place on April 8, at Dagal Nachikol village under Songsak PS jurisdiction.

Police said the victim, identified as (L) Talseng T. Sangma, a resident of Dagal Nachikol, was allegedly physically assaulted by a group of persons inside his residential compound at around 11 am.

The assailants reportedly entered the compound unlawfully and also threatened the victim’s family with dire consequences, the release stated.

Talseng sustained grievous injuries in the attack and later succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Civil Hospital, Williamnagar.

Following the complaint, police registered a case at Songsak Police Station as Case No. 9/2026 under Sections 103(1)(2)/329(1)(3) of the BNS, and all legal formalities, including the inquest and post-mortem examination, have been completed.

Police said the investigation was launched promptly, leading to the arrest of 15 accused persons so far, while search operations are underway to apprehend the remaining accused.

The East Garo Hills District Police have appealed to the public not to spread false information or rumours, as the matter remains under active investigation.

Authorities have also requested anyone with information related to the incident to contact the police control room.
