Shillong: In a late-night crackdown on illicit alcohol trade, the Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF), along with the Special Operation Team (SOT) and the Excise Department, conducted coordinated raids across Polo, Demseiñiong, and Urkaliar areas of Shillong.
During the operation, police seized nearly a Bolero pick-up truck amount of illegal liquor, including Khasi-made liquor, beer, and foreign brands. Officials confirmed that the largest haul was from Urkaliar, a known hotspot for bootlegging activities in the city.
Authorities stated that the raids were conducted on Saturday night, a time when illegal liquor sales typically surge after licensed shops and wine stores close.
Urkaliar remains one of Shillong’s busiest centres for the illegal sale of alcohol, operating almost round the clock despite repeated police action.
