HEADLINES

Shillong: The Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Mukul Sangma, stated that National People’s Party (NPP) leader and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar should prove that the allegations made against him by Congress leader Vincent Pala are ‘false.’ Additionally, Dr. Mukul said that Pala also should project further on the allegation.

It maybe mentioned, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president and former MP, Vincent H Pala has accused Dhar in involving in drugs related and illegal coal activities.

Dr.Mukul while speaking to reporters on Friday after the Assembly argued that the Central Government should address these allegations because coal mining falls under federal jurisdiction. He stressed that any illegal activity would violate Section 21 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMDR Act).

Sangma expressed concern over drug trafficking allegations, noting that drug seizures in the North East often involve substantial sums and require serious attention from the Central Government.

“Central Government should take cognisance of the matter as number of drug seizures across North East are in a high rise, we are not talking about a few crores of drugs but hundred of crores..it only means that a big cartel is operating in North East”, said Dr. Mukul.

He also lashed out at both Dhar and Pala, stating that it cannot just be mere allegations, “it cannot be just allegations and the one who comes with allegations keeps quiet… if he comes with allegations he should project further”, added the Former Chief Minister.

Dr. Mukul said that both the accuser and the accused should be held responsible. If they are not, it is the Leader of the Opposition’s job to write to the Prime Minister to take cognizance and action.
