Shillong: Leader of the Opposition (LO) and TMC leader Dr. Mukul Sangma has said that the National People’s Party (NPP) will face a tougher challenges in the days ahead.
Addressing the recent defection of three Congress MLAs to the NPP, Dr. Sangma criticised the ruling party’s move, stating it was made without proper consideration and because of lack of security.
Dr. Sangma refuted the NPP’s belief that the Congress party is losing its stronghold in Meghalaya, stating that it is ‘easier said than done’ but will never happen as ultimately at the end of the day, it is the people who decide and give the mandate to any political parties, added Sangma.
“Under the given situation, it might be the other way round”, said Sangma
He also noted that while the NPP currently leads the government the means by which they secured a majority of 31 MLAs is known to everyone, he added.
“How they (NPP) managed to come from 26 to 28 then to 31 we all know… we can also interpret as a desperate move of the party keeping in mind the undercurrent of the very stability of the current ruling dispensation”, he told reporters.
The Former Chief Minister confidently stated, “I am telling all this because I know what is happening within the NPP”.
