Shillong: Women’s groups of Nongrah on Thursday held a special meeting at the Dorbar Shnong office to deliberate on the tragic death of 4-year-old Insaphira Lyngdoh Mawnai.
After the meeting, members of the Seng Longkmie visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and also met with the family of the 13-year-old boy currently under police questioning. Speaking to the press, Kong Philinda Pyngrope, President, and Kong Asinla Nongrum, Secretary of the Seng Longkmie, said that while they respect the authority of law enforcement, they cannot accept the statement issued by East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem regarding the circumstances of the child’s death.
They pointed out that both villagers and family members had searched the site where the body was eventually found, but had not located the child earlier. Even the father of the victim, they said, had personally searched the same spot several times. This, they stressed, raises serious doubts and warrants a more detailed and transparent investigation.
The groups reiterated their demand for a thorough probe to ensure justice for Insaphira, underlining that unanswered questions continue to haunt the community.
