Shillong: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem on Monday informed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the suspected murder of four-year-old Insaphira Lyngdoh Mawnai in Nongrah.
The SIT will be headed by City SP Herbert Kharkongor.
Speaking to reporters, Syiem said police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death.
He further informed that the child’s body was first discovered on Monday morning by a construction worker at an under-construction house near the victim’s residence. Insaphira had gone missing on Sunday, prompting an extensive search involving village authorities, volunteers, police, and family members.
The SP added that police are in the process of gathering evidence to thoroughly investigate the incident.
