Shillong: Former West Shillong MLA Mohendro Rapsang has stepped down from the National People’s Party (NPP), citing personal reasons for his decision.
In a resignation letter addressed to NPP state president Prestone Tynsong on February 10, Rapsang said he was resigning from the party’s primary membership with immediate effect. He also expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the opportunity to serve over the past four years.
However, sources indicated that Rapsang is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as part of his political plans ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.
Rapsang had joined the NPP ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections after being suspended from the Congress party for supporting the then MDA-I government. He later contested the West Shillong seat on an NPP ticket but was defeated by United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Paul Lyngdoh.
