HEADLINES

Shillong: After pressures from different sections of society, three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel of the G Company of the 4th Battalion BSF have been arrested on Tuesday in connection with the shooting incident of Roning Nongkynrih a 35 year old truck driver at Mawshun village, Pynursla near Pomshutia, East Khasi Hills District.

Confirming this, a senior BSF official on request of anonymity, said, “The three have been arrested and besides that, the one who shot the person has been suspended from service,” adding, “All three are now placed under arrest and are being confined to the quarter guard.”

Soon after the incident on May 5th, BSF Meghalaya Frontier Inspector General Pradip Kumar ordered a Court of Enquiry headed by a DIG rank officer, and shortly after due process passed arrest orders against three BSF personnel – a Head Constable, Constable and a Driver.

According to the official, the head constable who shot three rounds from his Beretta SMG at the deceased causing instant death has further been suspended from service with immediate effect.

All three are now doing time in the quarter guard of the 4 Battalion HQ in Shillong.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) took out a protest rally against the inhuman act by the order sentinels. However, though the rally passed off without any untoward incident, yet late night towards dawn, some miscreants torched a machan used by patrolling BSF personnel at Lyngkhat village along the Indo-Bangladesh international border with Meghalaya. Police inform that no one was injured in the incident, but an inquiry is on.
