KHADC CEM rebuke hawkers union for interfering council’s duty

HEADLINES

Shillong: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Titosster Well Chyne hit at the Meghalaya’s Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors Association (MGSPHSVA) for wrongly targeting the council after the inspection of non-tribal vendors who were conducting businesses without valid license.

Talking to the news reporters on Friday, CEM Titosster stated that the Council has not stopped the street vendors from carrying their daily livelihood instead they have investigated the non-tribal who were trading without any trading license. He further clarified that the investigation has no relation with the decision given by the High Court.

At the same time he added that the decision given by the High Court in the year 2014, stated that anyone who is an owner of a shop or a store can rent it’s shop to any non-tribal as well but has to keep track of the regulations of the Khasi Hills District Trading By Non-Tribals Regulation Act 1954.

He further informed that any individual who are trading under the property of Paul Leong have to apply for a Trading License along with everyone who are trading under the jurisdiction of the District Council.
