JACAC Ri-Bhoi to oppose casino by holding public agitations

The leaders of the JAC Against Casinos (JACAC) in Ri-Bhoi District today called for an emergency meeting over the comments made by James K.Sangna on the 12th of September at the Autumn Session that there are 3 places in Ri-Bhoi District which have been granted temporary licenses for the purpose of running a casino which has really hurt and affected the feelings of the people of Ri-Bhoi District due to the Chief Minister assuring them just a few days ago that the plan to establish casinos has been stopped.

In the meeting of the Joint Action Committee Against Casinos (JACAC) led by Ferdinald Kharkamni, Secretary of the JACAC, were also present B.B.Makdoh, President of the JACAC who is also the Chairman of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Ri-Bhoi District along with the Rangbah Shnongs and leaders of pressure groups which includes the KSU, FKJGP and the HNYF which have given their support from the start against the establishment of Casinos in Ri-Bhoi District.

The JACAC decided today that it shall call the MLAs and MDCs of all the 5 constituencies in Ri-Bhoi District, the church and religious leaders, school and college teachers and also the prominent leaders of Ri-Bhoi District for a thorough discussion on this matter and on the 23rd of this month, a public meeting will be held alongside a public rally which will commence from the Dorbar Hall of Sahjer village to oppose the Government for disregarding the feelings of the people of Ri-Bhoi District.

Furthermore, the leaders also expressed their opposition to the introduction of The Meghalaya Regulation Gambling Act,2021 without notifying the public at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic was at its peak and lockdown was enforced all across the State, the action of the Government is unacceptable.
