It is the Government’s duty to ensure the safety and security of the HNLC representatives at the peace talks: CM

SHILLONG, August 04: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K.Sangma said that it is the duty of the Government to ensure the safety and security of the Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) members who are coming forward for the peace talk.

The HNLC in its message sent yesterday has made it clear that the safety and security of the leaders who are representing the organisation at the Tripartite Peace Talk is to ensured and that their stay is proper without making them feel like they are in a house arrest like situation.

Furthermore in the message it also clearly stated that the peace talk is in progress and the organisation is hopeful of the best but in the eventuality that peace talk fail, the leaders should be given a safe passage to return to their headquarters’ location.

On being queried about this, the Chief Minister said that the Government has taken into account the expression of the HNLC especially in ensuring the safety and security of the leaders as the peace talk is in progress, while adding that this has been an effort which has been pending and expressed hope that the peace talk with the HNLC will begin soon and that it will be as expected with the best results.
