57 votes polled, 4 MLAs absent from election of the President

SHILLONG, July 18: The election for the 15th President of India in Meghalaya went off smoothly with 56 MLAs fulfilling their duties of casting their votes at the Annexe Hall of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in Rilbong, Shillong.

Besides the MLAs of the State, the MP of the NPP to the Rajya Sabha,Dr.Wanweiroy Kharlukhi also cast his vote in Shillong, and the total number of voters today was 57.

On this polling day, 3 MLAs were absent with the information received that 2 MLAs of the NPP, Sniawbhalang Dhar being unwell and James P.K Sangma being outside of the State, while Marthon J.Sangma who is the MLA of the AITC was absent because he has been infected with Covid-19,and the reason for the absence of Shitlang Pale who is the MLA of the AITC is not known.

F.R Kharkongor who is the CEO of Meghalaya informed that the election went off smoothly and these votes cast today will be kept in Shillong tonight in the strong room and will be transported to Delhi tomorrow morning until the day of counting which is scheduled for the 21st of this month.
