SHILLONG, June 23: The State Government has directed all the Autonomous District Councils to promptly shut down all toll gates along the highways of the State. This decision was taken by the Government at a meeting held today the 23rd of June called by the Chief Minister, Conrad K.Sangma in which were also present the CEM of the JHADC, the Executive Member of the GHADC and Dy.CEM of the KHADC.
The Home Minister who is also incharge of the District Council Affairs(DCA), Lahkmen Rymbui said that this not the Government interfering with the right of the District Councils to collect tax from the areas under their jurisdiction but instating toll gates all along the side of the highways is not permitted by law.
He informed that if there are regulations pertaining to areas under the ADCs, they will have to present suggestions on how they intend to follow them so that the Government can deliberate and decide on them.
