Jowai: Several banks in Jowai today were closed down by the Jaiñtia Students’ Union(JSU),Jowai Circle and Jaiñtia Youth Federation(JYF),Jowai Circle for disregarding the State holiday of Thomas Jones Day and carrying on with their operations.
The banks whose shutters were brought down today by the JSU and JYF included the State of India-Jowai Branch, Ladthadlaboh Branch,Indian Overseas Bank -Jowai Branch,Apex Bank,ICICI Bank,HDFC Bank,Axis Bank, Meghalaya Rural Bank,Bank Of India,North-East Small Finance Bank,UCO Bank,Jowai Co-operative Urban Bank, IDBI Bank,Union Bank,Canara Bank and also other Financial Services offices such as the Mahindra&Mahindra Finance, Cholamandalam Finance, IndusInd Bank.
It was also urged upon all Government department offices including banks and finance offices to remain closed on any special day commemorated by the community. A demand was also made for the Government to cooperate in the commemoration of special days.
