Minister visit family affected by landslide in Laitlarem, promises to hasten ex-gratia

SHILLONG, June 17: The disaster which has led to a great loss for one family in Laitlarem village under Mawphlang C&RD Block, made the Minister incharge of the Department of Disaster Management, Kyrmen Shylla to visit the family that lost 4 children after their house was buried under a landslide yesterday.

The Minister along with the MLA of Mawphlang, Eugeneson Lyngdoh, officers of the department and district administration including the BDO reached the village to express their sympathies to the family whereby Kyrmen Shylla promised to release the ex-gratia relief from the Government allocated for the family sooner.

Shylla expressed his sadness over the unfortunate incident which made it difficult for him to not go visit and sympathise with the next of kin to express that the Government is with them. He said that as promised by the Chief Minister that an ex-gratia of Rs.4 lakhs will be given for one deceased child, the department will try to hasten the process.

He urged the local public to stay vigilant and alert during heavy rainfall, and said that the situation due to heavy rainfall is dangerous across many parts of the State.

The local MLA, Eugeneson Lyngdoh expressed deep grief and said that he will try as much as he can to help others who are injured so that they recover fully. At the same time the MLA said that there is no other way to console the family except for the consolation of God.

The Minister on this day also inspected the site affected by the landslide as well as a few other areas which may be affected to prevent them from disaster and to hasten relief support.
