SHILLONG, June 14: The Minister incharge of the Department of Arts and Culture in the State, Sanbor Shullai has expressed grave concern over the Amphitheatre in Mihmyntdu being inoperative even after 5 years since it was inaugurated.
After complaints were received from the Waheh Shnong and Jaiñtia Students’ Union, Sanbor Shullai conducted an on-site inspection and found the spot that was left abandoned, and from his end the Minister said that he will promptly summon the officers for clarification on this matter.
The Amphitheatre is located in Mihmyntdu,Jowai and he found that it was kept under lock and key without it ever being used since it was inaugurated in 2017.
It may be reminded that the Amphitheatre was inaugurated in 2017 by Prof RC Laloo, who was the Deputy Chief Minister at the time in the presence also of Ronnie V.Lyngdoh, Minister of the Department of Arts & Culture at time.
In the inspection, it was found that this Amphitheatre has been left abandoned with the doors starting to decay, the window panes were all broken and even electricity is no longer well connected anymore and this situation of the place is indicative instead of the Government wasting public money.
