Heavy rain leads to 3 persons being buried alive in Garo Hills, on-site inspection by CM tomorrow

SHILLONG, June 09: The heavy rain since yesterday night created fear in parts of Garo Hills, and the District Administration sped up emergency help and safety in places affected by flood and landslide.

As per reports received, the heavy rain led to a landslide in which 3 persons from the same household were buried alive while one was severely injured in Jebalgre village under Gambegre Block, and in other parts as well due to floods.

The Chief Minister, Conrad K.Sangma informed that as per information received, the water level in parts of West and South West Garo Hills has risen vastly due to the incessant rain. He said that District Administration of the two districts are being very vigilant and also visited the affected areas.

He further stated that the Government has directed the Deputy Commissioner to promptly release funds to help the households which have been affected by this natural disaster and to also gather information on the damages.

He said that such natural disasters cannot be stopped but the Government will try to find ways and means to safeguard the people from any hardships and to also provide them with necessary provisions.

Sangma also said that he will conduct an on-site inspection of all the flood affected areas tomorrow.
