3 dead and major damages in East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi as a result of natural calamity

SHILLONG, May 17: The heavy rain and strong winds in the past few days resulted in major damages in several parts of the State, especially in the Khasi and Jaiñtia Hills, where human lives were also lost.

The Minister incharge of the Department of Disaster Management, Kyrmen Shylla informed that the natural calamity on the 13th and 16th of May, resulted in major damages. He informed that as per the information collected by the department, from these incidents, 3 people lost their lives, 2 from East Khasi Hills District and 1 from Ri-Bhoi District.

The Minister sent his condolences to the families of the deceased persons and added that the department will speed up the process as much as it can in sending the assistance allocated from the Government.

At the same time, he informed that the natural calamity also led to roads and hills being damaged due to landslides, and also loss of animal lives. He urged the public residents of the State to be vigilant and cautious during this time in order to avoid damages and danger.

As per the statement of Shylla, in the last few days the damages were mostly seen in East Khasi Hills District and Ri-Bhoi District, and while damages were there in other districts as well but information on them has not been received yet.
