Adelbert urges Government not to bow down or agree to the demands of the Harijan Panchayat committee

HEADLINES

Shillong: One day after the outcome of second meeting of the High Level Committee with the Harijan Panchayat Committee which was held yesterday at Shillong was revealed, with the HPC from its end putting up a few conditions with the State Government and that is, if they are required to relocate all the residents from Them Ïew Mawlong, then they need to be allocated a special place and added that the allocation must be done accordingly to each and every household.

On this matter, the MLA of North Shillong, who coincidentally is also the MLA of the constituency from where the demand by the HPC has been raised, Adelbert Nongrum, has given a stern warning that the people from outside the State do not in any way have the right to to be entitled and at the same time the Government should not just take any decision just to pacify anyone.

Furthermore, digging deeper into the word relocate, Adelbert Nongrum feels that the word used by the Government requires specifically only the relocation of only those people who are employed as government employees and their relocation must be to the quarters of the department offices where they are employed.

Nongrum has alleged that on several matters, the present Government has bypassed him especially in matters and processes relating to his constituency, and also put forward a question as to what is behind this action of the Government which from the beginning has not included or called him to be a member of the HLC under the chairmanship of the Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong.

Nongrum wants a clarification from the Government as to how many from the 342 residing in Them Ïew Mawlong are employed in government departments of the State because of they are employees of the State Government they should be sent to stay in the quarters of their respective departments.

As a public representative, Nongrum stands to demand from the Government that come what may, the State Government should not now down or accept the demand of the HPC and the people residing illegally in this area and the Government needs to remain firm and chase them out from their present residences.
