Jowai:In its meeting with media persons at the Office of Panaliar locality, Jowai, expressed their gratitude to the honourable Meghalaya High Court for issuing the order to clear out the piling garbage in Jowai.
The order was issued yesterday the 12th of April,2022 after the Court looked into the PIL filed by the Synjuk Waheh Shnong against the Government. The HC directed the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and the Jowai Municipal Board (JMB) to clear up all the uncleared piling garbage in Jowai.
The President of the Synjuk, Alan Ñiangti said that no choice was left but to approach the Court over the garbage being left uncleared in the markets of Jowai and also in people’s residences. He also said that the representatives right from the MLA of Jowai, Wailadmiki Shylla had tried to find ways and means in how to remove the piled up garbage, and while the Synjuk had fixed a date to meet with the Minister incharge of the Department of Urban Affairs, S.Dhar but that could not take place and the intention to meet with the Minister has been left pending till now.
The Secretary of the Synjuk Waheh Shnong Jowai, Rq.Riquoma Laloo stated that we should be grateful to the honourable High Court of Meghalaya and we hope that the Government through the JMB and JHADC will be able to clear up all the piling garbage from Jowai. From his end, he has also urged the public to not litter or dump their garbage wherever they please, especially on the banks of Myntdu river which is the main water source for all the residents of Jowai, by saying that all humans require cleanliness and sanitation in order to be free from problems especially different diseases which can emerge from the filth and waste. Today were also present other Waheh Shnongs and Secretaries of the localities in Jowai.
