FOLLOWING THE INTERVENTION OF THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT, STATE GOVERNMENT TO STUDY IN DETAIL THE RIGHTS OF HAWKERS AND STREET VENDORS: ANGELA

The Meghalaya & Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors Association, an association of hawkers and street vendors under the lead of Angela Rangad today submitted a Memorandum to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya for the implementation of the Street Vendors(Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending)Act,2014 approved by the Parliament in 2014.

Speaking with Angela Rangad, she said that the hawkers and street vendors association is hopeful that the State Government will start implementing this act after having been directed to do so by the Central Government.

With regard to this matter, it was informed that the State Government has taken upto 6 years to turn to the problems faced by hawkers and street vendors and at this juncture the Government will have to review this act again before making it a law in the State which can act as a protection for the hawkers and street vendors who go through several challenges and taunts from other people.
