HEADLINES

Three non-tribals who are office bearers of the Meghalaya Table Tennis Association, Chiranjib Chodhury,Saibal Das Gupta and Santanu Ghosh have erased the names and removed the khasi coaches engaged in training the table tennis players at Tirot Singh Indoor Stadium, and after this, instead appointed coaches from other states.

On this matter, the Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council Sport Cell, CEC, after complaint received from parents and from other coaches over the arbitrary talks and highhanded actions of the newly appointed coaches, met with the three non-tribal office bearers, but they never arrived to meet with representatives of the organisation, and the HYC therefore, met instead with the Finance Secretary of the Association, Mr. Kyrshan to make a demand for the Association to remove the 3 non-local coaches appointed unlawfully since they do not possess a license to verify their ability to train the table tennis players of the State.

Speaking with Franky Kharumnuid, Sports Secretary, he said that information was received from parents that these coaches verbally harassed the khasi trainees which led them to leave the training and rely on their own talents.

Kharumnuid said that the organisation has demanded that the Association must promptly remove the coaches from outside the state and to reinstate the local coaches again, who are brilliant coaches and have received the necessary certification for this task, and also to remove the three non-tribals and the MTTA should give first preference to the locals so that the association can produce and promote local players with a talent in the sports of table tennis and especially to inculcate a fondness of the game amongst the young players.
