Nongpoh,April 08: As part of the process to prepare or create an awareness for the public to know of ways of safeguarding oneself in the event of an earthquake, the State Disaster Management Authority, Meghalaya in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and Umling C&RD Block today conducted a training programme to show the ways to safeguard oneself in the event of an earthquake or fire.
The Mock Drill was held at Balawan College, Umsning and in this training programme to take up the measure to safeguard or to help those affected by a major earthquake which measures 6.5 magnitude on the Richter Scale.
On this day, the Response Team also participated in the drill, along with the Health Department, the police force, fire emergency services, the public and especially those groups with expertise in this field to provide the training from the Department of Disaster Management participated in different tasks in connection with how to help the public or what steps needs to be taken if people are affected or injured in the event of an earthquake.
