HEADLINES

After the public experienced much problems with their land being taken away at the interstate border areas in the resolution of the border between the two states in which the give and take policy is followed causing protest to erupt in the areas of Maikhuli, Barapathar,Ïongkhuli due to the loss of their land.

Today the leaders of the Opposition under the leadership of Zenith Sangma,MLA of Rangskhuna accompanied by Winnerson D.Sangma, MLA of Salmanpara constituency, Southwest Garo Hills District visited these areas in the interstate border, and after they sat to discuss with the people of this area held in one school in Maikhuli, went and inspected the areas most affected in the border resolution which includes a fish pond in Maikhuli, the damaged to the information board of the MNREGA scheme in Barapathar and the intention to take away private owned land in the past few days in Mawïong, and the inspection was concluded in Ïongkhuli village, a place in which Assam forcefully stopped the work of erecting electrical poles.

After the inspection of all areas were completed, Zenith Sangma said that the public in these villages do not want to fall under Assam and they do not want even an inch of their land to go to Assam for they grew up in Meghalaya and do not want to go anywhere else.

Furthermore from his end after he spoke with the public, he said that the statement made by the Chief Minister in the Assembly that there had been a talk that had been carried out before the signing of the MoU with Assam is misleading for when asked from the public, they expressed that they had no knowledge on anything of that sort but only saw that a few of their land will go to Assam which had left people in the dark, and the public in these areas need a strong safeguard and from his end he will continue to stand and ensure that they are given their right.
