Shillong, March 26 : The Joint Action Committee which includes the group of farmers with farms close the banks of Umngot river has demanded that the Government issues a notification announcing the scrapping of the Umngot Hydro Power project. The JAC expressed this at the public meeting held at Mynsang under Mawkynrew Block close to Umngot river on the 25th of March.
The JAC expressed its strong opposition to the plan of the Government in setting up the Umngot Hydro Power project and in the meeting, the public held up placards on which wordings expressing their opposition to the plans of the Government for it will adversely affect the farmers of the area and the people who earn their livelihood from tourism.
In this public meeting besides the leaders of the JAC were also present leaders of the KSU, JSU, FKJGP, HNYF, TUR and the Meghalaya Rural Tourism Forum, the local village administrators from all villages situated close to Umngot river and the local village administrators and leaders from Elaka Darrang.
