The voluntary organisation known as the Green Defenders in West Khasi Hills District, an one of the organisations with the desire to preserve nature which is led by Flydenstar Marngar as President and Jimfelson Kharpor today organised a cleaning drive of the Nonbah river in Nongstoiñ, West Khasi Hills District.
The cleaning drive of the organisation was supported also by the group of Village Organisation of Upper New Nongstoiñ,Village Organisation of New Nongstoiñ, KSU, HYC, HANM, FKJGP, Hala Tynrai Eco Tourism Cooperative Society Ltd, the Office of the Syiem of Hima Nongstoiñ, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District and others.
The cleaning drive of the river began at 7:00 AM and continued till evening with much waste cleared out from the river especially plastics which are detrimental to nature.
The organisation also expressed its gratitude to all who supported them in this cleaning drive and invited as well as urged the local residents to protect the environment be it rivers or forests.
