SHILLONG, March 24: The Office of the Deputy Commissioner,East Jaiñtia Hills District, along with the Department of Social Welfare and Kyrmen Foundation in collaboration with the National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities, Kolkata, today the 24th of March organised a Screening Camp to register the names of people with disabilities held at the compound of the Jaiñtia Eastern College, Khliehriat.
The aim of the registration of people with disabilities in the region is to facilitate Government benefits, be in the form of schemes specially allocated and the free distribution of supporting materials which can be of benefit to them.
The Screening Camp was inaugurated by the Minister incharge of the Department of Social Welfare who is also the local MLA, and on this day hundreds of people with disabilities register themselves.
Speaking on this day, Kyrmen Shylla encouraged the people with disabilities, in which he said that they should not feel disheartened for God has made them special, but they must feel proud about the special creation of God.
He said that the Government has also tried to seek ways and means to ensure the same rights are extended to people with disabilities, but by equating them with all the other residents as well. He said further that in this world, no one is perfect, and if only perfect people and intelligent are there then there would be no need to have any educational institutions and other benefits.
On the other hand, Shylla applauded the Kyrmen Foundation which took up the responsibility to ensure means of benefits for the people with disabilities. He informed also that Kyrmen Foundation will also start a special school, and urged the parents to enroll their children in the school so that they get proper education, he also stated that Kyrmen Foundation will also start the Self-Help Group only for the people with disabilities so that they can be employed in some trade as per their talents.
