Mawkyrwat, March 22: The Office of the Executive Engineer, PHE-cum-Member, Secretary, DWSM(JJM), South West Khasi Hills District today the 22nd of March,2022 organised the ‘Run for Water’ marathon which is in part to join hands with the rest of the world in the observation of this day as ‘World Water Day 2022’.
In his opening address prior to the start of the marathon, Shri.R.Nongdhar, SDO & Executive Engineer, PHE incharge, South West Khasi Hills District said that the special day held to conserve water was started by the UNO in 1993. The main aim of this day is to spread the news to all the local public residents on how to have and take the responsibility to conserve clean drinking water.
Shri.S.C Laloo, Additional Deputy Commissioner,South West Khasi Hills District who attended the programme as Chief Guest expressed his wishes to all the participants which consists of children, youths and even parents and this is a sign of the cooperation of the local public on this occassion to specially commemorate the World Water Day 2022.
He urged that they should not just be happy in taking part in the marathon but that they must also understand the message of this special day for the future of the locality,village,city,district and the country is in the hands of the children and the youths. At the same time, he also requested that they must understand and cooperate with the Government in different matters and bring about changes which must first start at home, away from home, in the society.
In this marathon, enthusiastic participation was seen right from the children, the youths and also the parents consisting of Shri.Tlanding Wahlang, Shri. Twanding Mawlong and Smti.Kmoiñ Wahlang and their participation was truly inspirational and motivational for the children and the youths.
On this day, special awards were distributed to 40 participants including Edmund Hilary L.Wahlang who is only 6 years of age and also Smti.Kmoiñ Wahlang who is 73 years of age.
