The Office of the District Water Sanitation Mission( DWSM) JJM Ri-Bhoi District today organised a rally to create public awareness on the value of water in this day and age. The rally began from the gate of the Office of the District Transport Officer and culminated in front of the Nongpoh Town Shopping Complex, Nongpoh and was attended by school students of Nongpoh area who carried along with them placards on which were inscribed the words about conservation of water for life to thrive.
On this day, Banteilang J Kharshandi, ADC, Ri-Bhoi District attended the programme as Chief Guest, with E.Lamare,SE and other senior officers from Ri-Bhoi District also attending the programme.
On this day, the speakers explained that due to the rise of pollution in the environment, there has been scanty rainfall and the water table is fast receding and the supply of water is also running short therefore the environment should not be polluted and the trees and plants should be preserved so that the water table remains stable.
B.J.Kharshandi said that water is the important necessity now and through the Jal Jeevan Mission, the residents of Ri-Bhoi will get the major benefit with the expectation of 55,878 households being the beneficiaries of tap water connection, out of which 27,025 households have already received the benefit and now the rest of the 27,837 households will be getting the benefit soon and it will be a blessing to these households who will now get drinking water in their houses, and therefore he appealed to the school students and the residents of the area to conserve water and retain the forests which are the sources and the most important one at that in providing clean water.
