SHILLONG, March 14: The Executive Member incharge of Elaka, Jambor War said that the handing over of the jurisdiction of a few villages from Hima Sohïong to Hima Jirang in 2010 were only made for villages which are still in Assam, and in the same year, 13 villages were handed over from Hima Sohïong to Jirang along with EPIC cards.
He said that as per the records of the office, these villages had also informed Hima Sohïong of the handing over, but however the Hima had at that point of time kept silent and did nothing, and in 2014 when a public gathering was held in Nongwah, the public decided to confirm their association with Hima Jirang which was also notified to Hima Sohïong, and it is for this reason that the KHADC in April, 2015 called the two Himas to talk about the matter, at which time the necessary documents to confirm the handing over of Nongwah-Mawtamur to Hima Jirang completely were also signed.
The Syiem of Hima Jirang, Pa’iem R.H Wahlang expressed his surprise while stating that the Hima never claimed Nongwah to be a part of Hima Jirang, but it was the will of the local residents of Nongwah who came up to request for them to be included in the Hima.He said that after the District Council under the then EM had expressed of this matter to them, they personally made visits to Nongwah-Mawtamur at that time to find out the truth for themselves whether the will of the people was true or not, and after a response was received arrangements were made, and till date the matter is pending resolution.
