Nongpoh: The public today came out to stop the team of Dhar Construction from moving ahead following the disregard by this company in completing the asphalt laying work on a road in Paham Mawlein Narang village, Ri-Bhoi District.
Speaking with media persons, the President of HNYF Northern Region, Marcus Marten along with a few women expressed that a protest lasting upto 3 days was held to demand the completion of asphalt laying on this road which however was left unheard.
As local residents they were also filled with surprise as to how such a well-known road construction company in the State engaged in constructing big roads and highways in the State cannot complete the necessary work on a road which is only 1 km in length.
The delay in completing this road by the company has caused much difficulties for the local residents as they have to inhale the dust emitted from the incomplete road and the plying of cars on this road also poses a great danger for the people especially the shop vendors and school students.
The forceful stopping of the team affected the smooth flow of traffic on this road which prompted the District Administration to go to the site and intervene on the matter, which then led to an exchange of angry words which was eventually tempered down after a promise was given by the team that the pending work will be completed in the next 10 days.
