KSU SOHRA ORGANISE A MARATHON TO COMMEMORATE 2ND DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF LURSHAI HYNNIEWTA

Sohra, February 28: To commemorate the 2nd Death Anniversary of one of the youths of Sohra region who sacrificed his life for the greater cause of the community, (Late)Lurshai Hynniewta today, the leaders of the Khasi Students Union,Sohra Unit organised a Marathon called the Lurshai Hynniewta Memorial Run 0 Kilometres Hills Challenge.

At the marathon race, many young girls and boys along with elderly men and women and small children participated with enthusiasm, starting from Kor Shongthait onward and then back again.

The 2nd Death Anniversary commemorative day was attended by B.Khongshei, wife of (Late) Lurshai Hynniewta who also inaugurated the Marathon. The programme was also attended by Pynsuk Syiem, Officer-incharge of Sohra Police Station, B.Tham a famous runner of the region, Mesadap L.Skhembil, President of the KSU Sohra Unit, General Secretary, Vicky Mawnai amongst other elders.

The winners of the women’s category include Ridabhahi Lapasam who came first, Lapdianghun Swer who came second, and Balareen Jyrwa who came third followed by Shandalin Kharkongor and Riialam Lynnong who came fourth and fifth respectively. In the men’s category, the first place went to Revaldo Rynjah, Mexchall Kharkongor,Maxwell Marbaniang,Seraphin Warjom and Dickystar Rynjah.

The youngest participants prizes in the Marathon were awarded to Casper Jyrwa and Mebalaaishisha Tham and the oldest participants prizes were awarded to Jnanendra Hajong and Sinoris Synnah.

After the Marathon concluded, the leaders of the KSU, the FKJGP and Sumo Association Sohra honoured the sacrifice of Lurshai Hynniewta by placing a wreath on the specially made commemorative stone in Kor Shongthait,Sohra.
