Weiloi, February 14: Usha Association in collaboration with the Dorbar Shnong Kma-wan-rum Siat Khnam Committee supported by Bethany Society organised a competition of the traditional sports of archery known as ‘The Siat Khnam Championship 2022’ at Lum Symper Ground,East Khasi Hills District.
The aim in organising this festival is to preserve the ancestral tradition and culture of archery as well as to preserve the sacred forests, the traditional attire as well as the language and for the legacy to continue with the subsequent future generations.
The winners in ‘The Siat Khnam Championship 2022’ were Teiborlang Sunn, Mebanteilang Nongbet, Ribankerlang Kharshiing in the children’s category and in the adult’s category, the winners were K.Rani, R.T.Sunn and David Kharaiñ.
On this day, prizes in the form of cash and momentos, as well as certificates, were also distributed to the winners and special prizes were also awarded to Mawkordor Umdor for being the youngest participant and to B.Mawlong for being the oldest participant.
Present on this day were Kenny Kharsyntiew, SDO, PWD(Roads) Mawsynram Division as Chief Guest and John Sohtun, President of the Republican Party of India as the Guest Honour.
The function was conducted by the Headman of Kma-wan-rum, James Kharbani while the welcome address was delivered by the Chairman of the Dorbar Kma-wan-rum with the vote thanks delivered by the Village Secretary of Kma-wan-rum, Luckystar.
