UDP CAMP IN MAWTHADRAISHAN BREAKS AFTER LEADERS AND FORMER MLA JOIN NPP

SHILLONG, December 20: The United Democratic Party (UDP) of Mawthadraishan constituency suffered a blow after many prominent leaders of the party joined the NPP, and the exit of these leaders will be a great loss for the MLA, Brolding H.Nongsiej who is also a Minister in the MDA Government.

14 UDP leaders from Mawthadraishan joined the NPP on the 20th of December, welcomed by the National General Secretary of the NPP,James K.Sangma in the presence of other NPP leaders at the party office in Lachumiere on the evening of the 20th of December,2021.

Of these 14 members who joined the NPP, 7 are prominent leaders of the UDP in Mawthadraishan constituency, while others include leaders from the HSPDP, Congress and BJP. In this category is also included the name of Irin Lyngdoh, former MLA of Parïong as one amongst those that have decided to support the NPP.

James K.Sangma, in his speech at the brief gathering held to welcome the new party members of the NPP expressed great joy over their decision to support the party.

Philip Warjri, a leader of the UDP in Mawthadraishan constituency stated that their joining the NPP has come at a difficult time as the present MLA who won as a result of their effort, happens to also be a Cabinet Minister in the State Government.

Another leader, Wally Sohlang, Vice President of the UDP in Mawthadraishan constituency said that since the time that he had joined the UDP in 2010, there had already been two factions, one of Brolding.H Nongsiej and the other of J.C Diengngan, and they were never seen as members of the UDP party but only as supporters of the MLA.
