Shillong: Prof. (Dr.) Nalin Mehta, who recently took over as the new Director of North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, NEIGRIHMS has said that the only way to curb the spread of Covid-19 is if people follow the health protocols strictly.
In response to the query of NEIGRIHMS’ preparedness at the instance of a third wave, Prof.(Dr ) Nalin Mehta said that controlling the pandemic does not depend much on being prepared while stating through examples of the developed nations that were badly affected and as such one cannot say how much preparation is enough.
At the same time, Mehta applauded the efforts of the state government that had taken prompt measures to curb the spread of the illness and it has been witnessed that the recipients of both doses of the vaccine, have not been adversely affected by the virus in comparison with those that have not taken a single dose of the vaccine. Mehta is of the mind that it is only through people’s cooperation that the government and the health facility that he is incharge of can stand together and stop the spread of the disease.
