Soon after the declaration to contest the by-election from Mawphlang Constituency, Shri Eugeneson Lyngdoh said that the decision to contest from United Democratic Party has been taken by the people and he accepts it with utmost respect as it is the people who also wish for him to contest the election.
It may be reminded that Eugeneson’s father Late Shri S.K Sunn had won the General Elections to the Legislative Assembly in 2018 as an independent candidate after which he had joined UDP which is also a partner in the coalition government, Meghalaya Democratic Alliance.
Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting in Mawngap today, Eugene said that the election will be a difficult one as he is fielded against strong teams where he will have to face former MLA and Congress candidate, Shri Kennedy Khyriem and Shri Lamphrang Blah, the present MDC who will be contesting the election from NPP.
He also said that the public are the ones to decide and UDP and the leaders in the constituency will have to explain on the objective of this election and show to them what the intended plan of action for the public is in order for the people to have the confidence in casting their votes.
