Five Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested in Shillong Following Intelligence-Based Operation

SHILLONG: In a late-evening operation on Sunday, a joint team of the Special Cell and SOT apprehended five individuals who admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals, following a specific intelligence input.

Acting on information that suspected undocumented migrants were traveling from Srinagar towards Bangladesh via Shillong, security forces established a checkpoint (naka) at the ISBT Junction in Mawlai Mawiong. At approximately 8:42 PM, the team intercepted a tourist vehicle with registration ML 055 1358 carrying five occupants.

Upon preliminary inquiry, all five individuals were unable to produce any valid travel or identification documents. They subsequently admitted to being citizens of Bangladesh. The arrested persons have been identified as Md. Alamgir Mia (25), Lelepa Begum (40), Musanat Jahana Khatoon (35), Md. Imammul Hassan (18), and Md. Fajid Bilal (47).

All five have been formally arrested, and a criminal case has been registered at the Mawlai Police Station for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of their entry and stay in India.
