Meghalaya’s Rajya Sabha MP, Dr. Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi, expressed his reservations about the “One Nation, One Election” proposal by the NDA government. He believes it is impractical to hold both MP and MLA elections simultaneously across the country as it would take up to a year to organize efficiently.
Dr. Kharlukhi noted that conducting a single MP election alone requires around two months, and combining it with MLA elections would be even more time-consuming. Additionally, he raised concerns about the need for adequate security forces during such large-scale elections.
When asked if he would support the proposal in Parliament, Dr. Kharlukhi said he would need more clarity on the matter before making a decision.
