VPP President Ardent Basaiawmoit has acknowledged that the TMC, with the support of the Congress, has secured the necessary number of candidates to claim the post of Leader of the Opposition (LO) in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
He noted that, by law, they have met the 10 percent requirement of MLAs needed to assume this role. Additionally, the Congress has joined forces with the TMC to secure the post of Chief Whip of the Opposition
While Basaiawmoit noted that the VPP does not oppose the TMC and Congress alliance, he made it clear that his party will continue to collaborate on issues that directly impact the people.
However, he also stated that the VPP prefers not to form alliances with other parties due to differing stances on certain issues.
He expressed concern that joining alliances could lead to conflicts if disagreements arise, which is why the VPP has chosen to maintain its independence in the opposition bench.
