CBI Arrests Three Postal Officials in Meghalaya Over Bribery Case

HEADLINES

Shillong, Oct 7: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three officials of the Postal Department in East Garo Hills, Meghalaya, on bribery charges. Those arrested include the Assistant Branch Post Master of Williamnagar, the Sub-Division Inspector of Williamnagar, and a Postman of Rongjeng Sub-Post Office.

The case was registered on October 4 following a complaint from a Gram Dak Sevak, who alleged that the accused demanded two months’ salary as a bribe to release his salary withheld for 10 months. After negotiations, the amount was fixed at ₹30,000.

CBI laid a trap and caught the Assistant Branch Post Master red-handed while accepting the bribe. The other two were later arrested from Shillong, Meghalaya, and Ambassa, Tripura.

Searches at their office and residences led to the recovery of incriminating documents and ₹2.3 lakh cash from the residence of the Postman in Tripura. The accused will be produced before the competent court, while the investigation is ongoing.
