Shillong: An Assam policeman has been arrested for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a minor girl from a village under Block II in Ri Bhoi district. The incident occurred on August 27.
The accused, identified as LNK/121 Projen Langthasa of the 18th APBN, Lumding (Assam), was initially caught by villagers but managed to flee the scene. Following a complaint, a case was registered at the Nongpoh Women Police Station under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Ri Bhoi Superintendent of Police Vivekananda S Rathore informed that a police team was dispatched to Lumding, Assam, where Langthasa was arrested on Saturday afternoon and subsequently brought to Nongpoh the same evening.
“Investigation is in full swing and a chargesheet will be submitted soon. We will take all necessary measures to complete the trial at the earliest and ensure justice for the victim. Proceedings will also be initiated without delay to provide compensation to the survivor as mandated by law,” SP Rathore assured.
The SP also expressed gratitude to officers of both the Meghalaya and Assam governments for their prompt coordination and assistance in securing the arrest.
