Shillong: Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma has clarified that the query raised by North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum regarding his change of seating arrangement in the House was valid, since he remains a legislator of the Voice of the People Party (VPP).
Acknowledging that the Assembly Secretariat had erred, the Speaker assured that the matter will be corrected and Adelbert will be restored to his original seat in the Assembly.
When asked, the Speaker said Adelbert continues to be a member of the VPP Legislature Party, despite being suspended. He confirmed receiving a letter from the VPP informing him of Adelbert’s temporary suspension, but noted that the letter did not state he had ceased to be an MLA.
Earlier, during the first day of the autumn session, Adelbert Nongrum sought clarification from the Speaker on why his seat in the Assembly had been shifted.
