Shillong : Ri Bhoi Police have filed a charge sheet against a 22-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting and murdering a child under Mawlasnai Outpost jurisdiction earlier this month.
The accused, identified as Iainehskhem Kharsati, son of (L) Rinosha Kharsati and a resident of Kalapangti village, was charge-sheeted in connection with Nongpoh Women Police Station Case No. 58/2025, dated October 22.
Police said the case was registered on October 10, a day after the child’s body was recovered on the evening of October 9. The investigation was led by WPSI S. Ryngksai, currently posted at Umiam Police Station.
According to Ri Bhoi Police, the investigation was completed within 13 days, fulfilling the department’s commitment to file the charge sheet within two weeks.
The accused now faces prosecution for the heinous crime, which had sparked shock and outrage in the district.
