A 26-year-old man, Bunsiewdor Nongrang, was brutally attacked by unidentified assailants in the early hours of Saturday at Dong Nong Sohiong, Mawlyntriang village, in Eastern West Khasi Hills district.
Police said Nongrang, who was engaged in the construction of a house, was hacked with sharp weapons. Despite severe injuries and heavy bleeding, he managed to return home before being rushed to CHC Nongkhlaw. He was later referred to Nazareth Hospital, Shillong, for further treatment due to the seriousness of his wounds.
His family has lodged an FIR at Mairang Police Station. Village headman T. Nongsiej confirmed he was alerted by the VDP president at around 5 a.m. and immediately visited the site with the village secretary.
Police have launched an investigation to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
